«phantom eclipse» de Ángela Jiménez Durán en Espacio Cultural El Tanque (Gobierno de Canarias)

phantom eclipse es una historia, una narrativa húmeda y fantasmal que produce una divergencia en el espacio tiempo de El Tanque (Gobierno de Canarias). La artista Ángela Jiménez Durán propone un diálogo entre los elementos de la arquitectura industrial del antiguo espacio petrolero, un eclipse que está siempre ocurriendo y los cuerpos que se adentran en él.

Este proyecto se sitúa en los límites de la escultura y se hace preguntas que rebotan en un vacío difuso, una fisura en el cosmos que alberga todas las posibilidades de ser y encarnarse desde dentro y fuera de sí mismo. A partir de una instalación con materiales provenientes de la tecnología del crecimiento vegetal de la tierra, un dispositivo giratorio y un eclipse en tiempo real, se produce un gesto que se posa sobre la arquitectura y crece de manera sensible generando un lapso espacio/temporal habitado por múltiples presencias. Quienes se preguntan por este eclipse ancestral; si quizás es un eclipse que todavía no es y que está siendo, o un Eclipse fantasma.

Entre la artista y la comisaria Dalia de la Rosa se ha desarrollado la propuesta a modo de conversación, que evoluciona a través de la pregunta como herramienta de pensamiento. De manera que lo dialógico se convierte en la interpelación constante entre entidades que se preguntan qué tienen en común un eclipse y un fantasma o qué tienen en común el presente, la presencia y la posibilidad de futuro desde una premisa de crecimiento lento en un mundo acuoso.

phantom eclipse es una instalación site specific para el espacio Cultural El Tanque situado en Tenerife (Islas Canarias), primera individual de Jiménez Durán en un espacio institucional de España, que supone un punto de inflexión en una práctica artística que explora con profundidad las materialidades que participan en sus instalaciones y esculturas mezclando ciencia ficción, poesía, geología y biología, explorando futuros inciertos.

phantom eclipse is a story, a damp and ghostly narrative that produces a divergence in the space-time of El Tanque (Canary Islands Government). The artist Ángela Jiménez Durán proposes a dialogue between the elements of the industrial architecture of the old petrol space, an eclipse that is always happening and the bodies that enter it.

This project is situated at the limits of sculpture and asks questions that bounce off a diffuse void, a fissure in the cosmos that harbours all the possibilities of being and incarnating from within and outside of itself. From an installation with materials from the technology of plant growth in the earth, a rotating device and an eclipse in real time, a gesture is produced that rests on the architecture and grows in a sensitive way, generating a space/time lapse inhabited by multiple presences. Those who wonder about this ancestral eclipse; if perhaps it is an eclipse that is not yet and that is now being, or a phantom eclipse.

Between the artist and the curator Dalia de la Rosa, the proposal has been developed as a conversation that evolves through questions as a tool for thought. In this way, the dialogic becomes a constant interpellation between entities that ask themselves what an eclipse and a ghost have in common, or what the present, the presence and the possibility of the future have in common from a premise of slow growth in a watery world.

phantom eclipse is a site-specific installation for the El Tanque Cultural Space in Tenerife (Canary Islands), Jiménez Durán’s first solo exhibition in an institutional space in Spain, which represents a turning point in an artistic practice that explores in depth the materialities involved in his installations and sculptures, mixing science fiction, poetry, geology and biology, exploring uncertain futures.
